General Assembly

Yay! Jack's made it safely and well, here to our nation's capitol.

He and Anita checked in a little while ago, and felt well enough to walk to dinner. He's bound to have to make up for all that effort tomorrow, with hopes of being in good condition to see all of you on Wednesday.

He's been given a scooter, so that he can conserve energy between the hotels and the confvention center. So if you see someone speeding along, my advice is to get out of the way. Anita has told him to think of it as his motorcycle, with just one extra wheel, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad one. His practice session with Ged in the hall this evening almost wiped out a couple of librarians here for the librarian convention.

I asked him who he's especially looking forward to seeing, and once the list hit about 300 names, I steered him to another topic. He really does consider himself blessed to be a part of this family reunion and gathering of Baptists. He spent a good bit of time telling me all about the very first commissioning of field personnel, something that always means so much to him. I am so thrilled, as I know you are, that he gets to be here for this one.

He looks so forward every day to the emails you send him, to the comments posted in the blog, to the cards and letters he's received, getting back in touch with some of you after so long and hearing updates from so many of you whose lives have crossed his over the years. And is excited about getting to see you in person now.

Thank you for the prayers and the grace that's gotten us here thus far . . .

- Cindy

Jack, Anita and family,
I have not commented in the past, but have kept up with your web-site and of course, prayers for you. Just thought it was time to let you know how loved you all are and how happy I am to see that you are "scooting" around there.

Blessings,
Joan Kirkland

Praise God! Our God is an awesome God! We are so thankful to Him that you have made it to the assembly. Praises for the scooter. Think of all the times Mary Jane arrived on her scooter. Praises again. Now on the medication she is stronger than in quite a number of years.
Thanksgiving that you are in Washington. Thanksgiving in our hearts for all of us who have known you through the years.
LOVE
Ann, Jim and Bruce

We are so happy that the Lord has answered all of our prayers. We wanted you to attend this meeting and send out the missionaries.

Have a wonderful time and don't run down too many people with your scooter.

Jack,

I thought I was disappointed about not being in DC because I wanted to be a part of such an historic meeting. Now I find that I am more disappointed because I am not going to be able to be at the commissioning service and see you lead that special time.

Keep up the good fight. Our thoughts and prayers for you are a regular occurence.

Scott

Praise and thanks be to God that you've made it to Washington in readiness for the General Assembly, which He knows means so much to you. We pray that He will continue to give you, and all the family, the necessary strength and courage which is such an inspiration to the rest of us - and will be to everyone at the General Assembly.

Best love - Brian and Jen. (UK)

Dr Snell, Think of you often and wanted to take a minute to tell you so... You are amazing!! (And mean so much to me.) I have so many happy memories at HAB...(That you were a part of) You baptized me, married Scott & me, were there at the hospital to visit after our first child (Hunter) was born, you did his dedication....(Just to name a few) And were at lots of other things as well that will always be etched into my memory. Thank you for being a part of some of the happiest events of my life... You have such a gentle spirit and kind heart and have always been such a source of stength and comfort. I am so sorry for all you (and your family) are going through... You are so strong and brave... Thank you for taking the time to write (even as your not feeling well) to share your experience... You are such an inspiration to us all!!! Love you much!! I thank God for bringing you to HAB (and into our lives)... And pray that you will feel as good as you possibly can so you can enjoy your family and friends to the fullest and do any and all things you would like to do... Jack, thank you for your inspiration during this time of your life, the messages you gave at HAB, and the counseling (and wisdom) you provided for me. Even more, thank you for your love. And above all, thank you for your friendship. May God continue to bless you. I'll see you on the other side.

Jack--

I'm so glad to read of your trip to the meeting. The only really good time I have had in Baptist land is the few I have attended or the Mainstream meetings. How great to feel comfortable and be yourself among kindred spirits.

Your presence has to be an inspiration to all. My buddy, Randall Lolly should be there so I hope my name came up.

My continued prayers for peace and painless days. Between your children and Baptist friends we want to be the best medicine a good man can have!

Hey, Jack and Anita--So glad the commissioning went well. We all want to read more about it.
I so well remember my own commissioning in the chapel of the FMB in 1971. Baker James Cauthen did the ceremony, then he and Eloise invited the 12 couples over to their house afterwards for coffee and a meaningful visit while us young folk sat on the floor of their livingroom.
Can't wait to see the next edition of Along the Journey. Julie and I are printing all of them and keeping them in a file. We love you both. Bill Mason

Dr. Snell,
By way of my parents Peter and Lois Wilson, I was informed of your illness. I can not stop thinking about you and your family and everything that you are going through. I wanted to let you know that you all are in my prayers. I have such fond memories of my 4 years living in Newnan, Georgia. Stephanie was my very good friend during this short time and what a time we had! I remember putting on silly skits at each others house, eating grits for the first time on an overnight at your house, and singing in the choir together at church. Dr. Snell, I can still see you standing at the pulpit giving your sermon and Miss Anita singing a beautiful solo to the congregation. Such vivid memories! I hope you all enjoy every minute of your time together at the beach and that it will be the best family vacation ever!
God Bless you,
Anne (Wilson) Ramsey and Family
