Jack admitted to hospice facility

I just talked with Anita awhile ago. Their family enjoyed a night of memories and laughter on Friday evening. Saturday morning, the hospice nurse recommended that Jack be hospitalized after his condition worsened. There is a problem with liver function so he was transferred to a hospice facility later on Saturday. Hospice can make him more comfortable there. Anita reports that his appearance is different but he's still the same Jack - wanting to be in charge of everything, knowing when it's time for his meds, etc. The family is together with Jack and are at peace knowing that their time together is growing shorter. They are comfortable and their needs are being met in the facility. While we were on the phone, the family was gathering for a meal. Anita assured me that they feel the love and support of CBF and all their friends and family. Cindy has been away on a retreat and has not been able to check email. I will continue to keep the blog updated.

Dear Jack,

We stand together with you in spirit as you complete your journey to glory. Together with thousands of others around the world, we praise God for the blessing of your life and for the privilege of knowing and loving you. In awe and gratitude we stand on this side of the threshold, as you pass into the arms of Jesus where will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. "You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Now there is in store for you the crown of righteousness." Thank you for showing us how to run. We will see you at the finish line.

With all our love and prayers, now and always.

Dear Jack, Anita, Stephanie, Henry and Charlie,

Just know that your family has grown exponentially as all of us claim kinship with you. We are loving you and are with you in our hearts. Jack, you are our role model, our mentor, our leader and our guide -- most of all you are the Jack we love.

Today at church we heard from a homeless man who said that really we are all homeless as we work our way to our eternal home. And our eternal home will be that much more joyous because you will be there to greet us, still our friend and our guide.

We love you all so much,
Harriet and Paul

Jack and Anita,

You are the couple I most admired and loved from our wonderful days at Samford together, 1962-63. Your influence on my life is remarkable. "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." God Speed you on your journey, Jack; thank you for bringing us back together in the 8 months of this blog.

Love,

Dr. Snell:

Today I am reminded of that old gospel song, "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through..." Soon your journey will be complete and you will hear those words "Welomce Home, good and faithful servant!!!"

May your journey be peaceful. Our comfort in grief will be the knowledge that you are Home with the Father!!

I THANK MY GOD IN ALL MY REMEMBRANCE OF YOU!!!

Mrs. Snell, Stephanie/Henry, and Charlie, you are in our constant thoughts and prayers! May God wrap His loving arms around you in this time, knowing that in those arms you have our love and support!!

Peace and Grace!!

Wish we were there to give you hugs and kisses. You are dear to us and in our hearts every second these days. Clinging with you to the three things that remain -
Faith in our great God; Hope for life beyond death; and most of all Love - your love for each other, love for our Lord, and even greater God's great love for you - beyond our comprehension...the greatest of these.

We love you dear friends~

Hello my long time friend. You've delivered many beautiful messages to my family, you've performed funerals for my family, you've married my children & you've been our loving counselor. My eternal thanks & love are yours. I will be reminded of you in many ways. One reminder in particular now (that Anita will appreciate) is the name of the first line dance I ever learned & that I still do. The name of that line dance is "Heaven". I love you.

Oh, friend Jack:

The old slaver had it right: "Tis grace hath brought us safe this far, and grace will lead us home."

Know in the outpouring of our pain for you during these last days, that we really do believe with you that the moment of our greatest pain will be the moment of your greatest joy.

Karr La and I love you, dear friend.

Jack--
What an irony! Even as your world shrinks and shrinks -- from "the world" (literally) to Atlanta to your home and now to your hospice room -- you gather a greater a greater "cloud of witnesses" from all four corners of the globe.
I recall the grace-filled days with my own dad (also a Jack), with family gathered around him seven years ago: laughing, crying, telling stories, sharing quiet moments, singing songs, praying, entrusting our precious J-A to the generous Father who gifted us with him in the first place. And now it is the Snells' turn.
Anita, Charlie, Stephanie and Henry: please know that that Catholic priest in St. Augustine and that rabbi in Daytona never cease to pray for you and for your precious husband and dad (and our beloved coworker in the ministry), "from the rising of the sun even to its setting." (Gary adds: "And then some!")
How I regret that this priest and this rabbi won't be able to make "that second trip" to Atlanta that we've talked about, either by car or by airplane. I guess we will just have to wait a little while for that other journey to visit you, Jack -- by chariot!

Anita, Jack, Charley, Stephanie, Henry and all your family...

I want to personally thank you for the encouragment you have given us especially with Carole's decision to retire. We both have had the benefit of the Snell's counsel for many years for which we are truly grateful. I look back to the first visits to Newnan and meeting each of you on your own turf. From those early relationships on to today our love and respect for you has done nothing but grow. Please know that not a day/hour goes by that you folks are not in our thoughts and prayers.

My last post didn't go through, so I'm trying again. Our love goes out to the entire family as you face these days of pain and uncertainty. Peace and love by with you. Our prayers continue daily, and more often as we hear of your situation and think of you often. God continues to be in control -- remind Jack of that, and give him a hug from Julie B. Time passes more slowly because of the pain, but far too quickly to suit any of us, at the same time. Continuing and abiding love and prayers to a family who has had a great impact on our lives -- and will until eternity. Peace be with you. Julie and Bill Babcock

Dear Snells,

You have all been a part of my life for so many years... over the next few weeks I will be thinking and praying for you all. Jack, this time 16 years ago you were helping me and Dave prepare for our wedding - what a wonderful counselor you were then - and continue to be now!! The subject is slightly different, but it's all about a journey. Sometimes the road is rough, but there are joys along the way too! We love you all and I find myself in constant prayer for you all - for peace and for knowing that Jack is getting ready to accept the ultimate gift from God - eternal life. May God grant you all peace.

Love always to all of you.

Just as I so often "flew with you" as you made so many crossings of the Pacific, thinking of you from the time the taxi left your home to the time you arrived at my office door in Atlanta, in my heart and mind, I am with you now, even though I cannot be physically there.
"May the peace of God which passes all understanding" keep you now.
Blessings - Barb

Just reading these messages, many from folks I don't know personally, makes me truly realize how fortunate I have been to know, love, respect and admire Jack Snell and his family. Tonight, at HAB, I looked around the room and saw several people who did not have the privilege of having you as their pastor and mentor. Knowing that many of these messages you are now receiving, are the results of the lives you and Anita have touched since leaving HAB made your departure from Jacksonville all worth while and I'm sure was God's plan all along. I very vividly remember how sad we were when you made the move into the mission field. Time proves it was the right thing to do. Thank you for having the courage to make that step!

Beloved Friend, Thank you so much for sharing this journey with all of us. It has been a wonderful blessing to read your words and to know that they will be here to help us all as we make the final journey. For those who know and love you, darkness will cover the earth once again when your light goes out, but your spirit will be our new light that will lead us on to follow the examples you have
set. God bless you and give you comfort. We love you all.

I've tried so many times to write a few words to you and it never seems to come together. I want you to know how much I love all of the Snell's even though I'm not "official" family any longer! You will always be my brother and sister, niece and nephew. Thanks for all that you have done for me and Andrew over the years. It is hard to type through the tears...Just know that you have always been special in my life and I like others continue to pray for you as you your path gets closer to our heavenly father.

As saddened as I am to read the latest news about Jack, I'm also somewhat excited, or maybe jealous, that Jack is nearing the time to finally meet The Maker face-to-face.
Reading this morning's "Florida Times-Union," I ran across Ron Littlepage's column, and I suddenly remembered that Jack had told me once that he had married Ron and his wife, so I e-mailed him the news about Jack, and now I see that the Littlepages have left a note above me here. I only wish I had remembered this connection earlier.
I always seem to catch up with the latest news on Jack between trips out of town with B.G.E.A. For the last two weeks, I was in Paducah, KY, for a Will Graham Celebration (crusade) there in Paducah. I thought about Jack often while I was there, and the "celebration" that was upcoming in his own life.
As this celebration too quickly approaches, I salute Jack for the mentoring he did in my life, and the outcome of his faith and belief in me as a Christian brother. If it weren't for Jack's mentoring, I probably never would have been called into ministry with the Graham organization.
THANKS Jack for everything that you have done and been in my humble life!!!

Thankful & Prayerful Blessings,
Stan Lambert
